The Vikings won the 4×400, shuttle hurdles and the pole vault
The Union Catholic boys put together several impressive performances and won three events when the Vikings placed a very strong second at Thursday’s Non-Public A Relay Championships at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
UC, which scored in eight of the nine events, won the shuttle hurdles in 31.13, captured the 4×400 in dramatic fashion in 3:27.04, and finished first in the team pole vault as the Vikings piled up 56 points. Christian Brothers Academy finished first with 76.
There were lots of Vikings who sparkled on the track and in the field.
Junior Conor Reilly matched his personal best and school record in the vault when he cleared a meet best 15-0, and had splits of 52.7 in the 4×400 and 24.1 leading off the third-place 4×200
Junior Elijah Brown anchored the third-place 4×800 with a 1:58.7 carry, and went 50.2 in the 4×400.
Freshman Myles Plummer went 51.8 when he came from behind on the anchor leg to catch CBA right at the line to win the 4×400, and split 1:59.6 in the 4×800.
Obadare Animashaun led off the winning shuttle hurdles for UC with a 7.8 split, cleared 12-0 in the vault, and ran a 200 on the fifth-place SMR.
Elijah Abraham anchored the shuttles and 4×200, and ran the 400 leg on the SMR.
Brandon Leslie ran 7.8 in the shuttles, and 23.9 in the SMR. Connor Cooper blasted a 22.9 in the 4×200 and ran on the 4×400. Chinedu Okoro ran 23.6 in the 4×200 and made 5-6 for the fourth-place high jump team. Ryan McLaughlin ripped a 7.3 in the shuttles, and Uchenna Duru (50-7 ¼) and Jared Ware (44-7 ¼) teamed up to place second in the shot put. Duru’s 50-7 ¼ is No. 16 in the state this season.
