Strong Indoor Opener for UC, led by Bonn and Givan
Bonn and Givan win the hurdles to lead strong season opener for the UC track and field teams

The Union Catholic track and field teams opened its season on Saturday with several strong performances at a Watchung Division Pod Meet at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualified for the Union County Series Championship on March 21 at the Bennett Center.
The Vikings dominated the hurdles as sophomore Alexandra Bonn led a 1-2-3 finish for the girls in the 55-meter hurdles with a winning time of 9.04. Senior A’Liyah Thomas was second in 9.13, and sophomore Ajanae Thompson placed third in 10.07. Thompson, who also finished third in the 55 dash in 7.46, blasted an 8.67 in the trials.
In the boys 55 hurdles, UC junior Nick Givan picked up the victory with a big personal best of 8.08.
Also for the UC boys, senior Connor Cooper ran 6.88 to place second in the 55 dash, junior Shane Brosnan (a personal best 4:23.20), and junior Myles Plummer (4:23.89) finished 1-2 in the 1,600.
Jimmy Wischusen, running the first track race of his life, made a memorable debut. The freshman showed off his wheels on the way to winning his heat of the boys 1600 in 4:50.18 to place 10th overall. Wischusen displayed great closing speed by blasting a swift 32 second final 200 to secure the win.
On the girls side, senior Morgan Williams (5:33.25), and junior Abby Granrath (5:36.24) finished 5-6 in the 1600.
