UC boys and girls sweep 4×400 relays with meet record performances at Millrose Games
Elijah Brown placed third in the boys 600 with the fastest time by a NJ runner this season
Union Catholic put on a sizzling sprint show when the Vikings burned up the track by taking down the meet records in both the boys and girls 4×400-meter relays at Saturday’s 113th Millorse Games at the 168th Street Armory in New York.
The boys dropped a NJ#1/US#3 time of 3:20.70 to break the meet mark and win the Private School 4×400. Senior Tyhir Jones (50.27), junior Connor Cooper (51.49), sophomore Myles Plummer (50.37) and senior Elijah Brown (48.58) shared the baton for UC. CBA was second in 3:21.39.
The George Mason-bound Brown came back after his 4×400 anchor to place third in the boys 600 in a:120.89, the fastest time by a New Jersey runner this season, Gabriel Moronta of Pleasantville, who came into the race leading the state with a 1:20.90, was fifth in 1:21.75.
In the girls Private School 4×400, Union Catholic finished first in an NJ#1/US#6 and meet record 3:52.91 as freshman Maameyaa Nyinah (59.54), junior Avery Jordan (58.56), freshman Asydiah Pray-Brown (58.77) and senior Chi Chi Nkulume (56.05) combined on the victory. Paul VI was second in a NJ#2 3:53.81.
UC girls had a very busy day as the Vikings displayed their superior depth and balance.
In addition to its 4×400 victory, UC also placed sixth in the girls 4×800 in 9:20.86, the top time by a NJ team this season, and finished sixth in the girls 4×200 in an NJ#3 1:43.10.
In the 4×800, senior Ashleigh Patterson led off in 2:21.96, senior Zamira Ysaac ran 2:21.76, senior Morgan Jackson split 2:19.77,and junior Morgan Williams anchored in 2:17.39.
