Ysaac and Tucker win as UC girls capture fourth straight Union County title
Evans, Morant, Cooper, Quainoo, Thomas and Borik also star for the Vikings
Zamira Ysaac and Sydney Tucker each scored victories and several other Vikings came up with huge performances to spark the Union Catholic girls to its fourth straight title at Thursday’s Union County Championships at Hub Stine Field in Plainfield.
The Vikings outscored runner-up Westfield, 115 1/4-86.
Tucker, a sophomore, had the best meet of career. She captured the 100 dash in a personal best 12.29, leaped a personal best 17-5 1/2 to place fourth in the long jump, and she was sixth in the 200 in 25.42, also a personal best.
Ysaac, a sophomore, won the 400 hurdles in 1:03.15 and was sixth in the 400 in 59.21.
Several other Vikings came up big to help the team continue its dominance in the county.
Junior Khamil Evans was second in both the 200 (24.89) and 400 (55.87). Leena Morant finished second in the 800 in 2:13.38. Felicia Quianoo ran a PR of 14.81 to place second in the 100 hurdles. Alexandra Borik dropped a huge personal best of 5:13.27 to place fourth in the 1,600. That’s 19 seconds better than her previous best. Asiah Cooper placed second in the long jump with an 18-1. Freshman A’Liyah Thomas ran a PR of 15.68 to finish fourth in the 100 hurdles and soared a PR of 17-7 to place third in the long jump.
The Vikings will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday in the NJSIAA South Jersey, Non-Public A Championships at Donovan Catholic in Toms River.
